Things to do before a tournament

There are a few things you would like to prepare before going to a tournament. Here is a quick list for you to check it out.

Before a Tournament

□ Check the Time
Event schedule tends to differ in each event.
Ensure that you have sufficient time to travel as well.

□ Check the Venue
You definitely do not want to lose in a match for being late!
Therefore, make sure you know exactly how to get there!
It is always better to be safe than sorry.

□ Check the Tournament Rules & Regulations
Each tournament has their own format and deck constructing rules.
We will explain more about it below so please take a look.
This is an important thing to double check before entering a tournament.

Understanding Deck Construction Rules

○ Neo Standard Format
Each player chooses their favorite title and constructs a deck with cards from the title only.
This format is known as “Neo Standard”.

○ Standard Format
Any cards from the expansion or PR cards that had been released can be used to build a deck under the “Standard” format.

○ Side Restricted Format
You may only use cards from the expansion or PR cards that had been released that falls either the “Weiẞ side” or “Schwarz side” for deck construction under the “Side Restricted Format”.

There are 3 variations of the tournament, namely: “Weiẞ side restricted”, where you can only use cards from the “Weiẞ side”, “Schwarz side restricted”, where you can only use cards from the “Schwarz side”, or choosing one of the two sides for “Side Restricted” format.

○ Title Restricted Format
In this format, you may only construct a deck from cards within the title. This is known as the “Title Restricted” format.
Do double check on which title a particular tournament is using.

On the Day of the Event

□ Be Friendly
Don’t forget the basic manners and be polite to your opponent. A simple “Thank you for the game!” can make a person’s day.

□ Tell your opponent what you are doing
By explaining the abilities that you are going to use and clarifying the steps you are going through, both players will have an easier time playing the game.
For beginners, don’t be afraid to talk to your opponents.
For experienced players, this would be a great help to new players.

□ Basic Manners
Learn to accept wins and losses, and avoid saying bad things about your opponent.
Please avoid giving advices to other players who are still in the midst of a match.

□ Others
Please treat the properties of others nicely as if it is your own, and do not dirty the tables and cards of other players or the shop.
Some shops have rules to prohibit players from eating and drinking in their premises.
And of course, do not litter around.

After a Game

□ Exchanging Pointers
It is always a good thing to exchange opinions and pointers on each other’s deck after a match.
In this way, it benefits both players and help improve their playing skills.

□ Making Friends
Many players will gather at the event and it is definitely a great opportunity to make friends and meet people.
Also, you might be able to meet players with common interests and establish new friendships!
