Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Vol.2 Booster Pack Introduction Part 2: Illya and Berserker

We are back with more previews from the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Vol.2 Booster Pack!

Today, we will be looking at cards featuring the character Illya and her servant, Berserker. There were very few cards featuring Illya & Berserker in the previous booster, but this time, we ‘ve got a couple of awesome cards showcasing this Master and Servant duo for you to build a deck around.

“Relationship of Trust” Illya & Berserker

【CONT】This card gets +1000 power for each of your other cards in the back stage with “Illya(イリヤ)” in its card name.

If you have 2 Illya in your back row, this card will be at a base power of 11000. However, if you have “A Battle of Legend” Illya in your back row, this card can go up to 12500 power which is pretty difficult to defeat without power boosts from events, backups and climax abilities.

【AUTO】 When this card is placed on the stage from your hand, draw up to two cards, choose a card in your hand, and put it into your waiting room.

A pretty standard ability for Level 3 character these days which gets you an extra card in hand.

【AUTO】 When this card attacks, if a card named “Encounter and Bond” is in your climax area, put the top five cards of your deck into your waiting room, deal X damage to your opponent, and this card gets +2000 power until end of turn. X is equal to the number of climax revealed among those cards. (This damage may be canceled)

On average, this ability can deal 1-2 damage each time you use it. Even if you did not reveal any climax cards from the 5 , it only means that you still have your climax cards in your deck for canceling damage.

“Strong Will” Berserker

【CONT】This card gets +1000 power for each of your other cards in the back stage with “Illya(イリヤ)” in its card name.

If you have a “A Battle of Legend” Illya in your back row, this card can go up to 9500 power which is great for a Level 2 with 1 cost. This allows you to beat your opponent’s Level 3 characters using minimal resources!

“A Battle of Legend” Illya

【CONT】 All of your other ““Strong Will” Berserker” get +1000 power.

Seems like a very specific ability but “Strong Will” Berserker will probably be your main Level 2 attacker, playing 4 copies of this card sounds reasonable to make sure your deck works consistently.

【CONT】 Assist All of your characters in front of this card gets +X power. X is equal to 500 multiplied by that character’s level.

Veteran meisters should be familiar with this ability and will probably like this a lot since it is the best Assist ability for your Level 2 and 3 characters.

“Confronting a King” Illya

【AUTO】 [Put a card from your hand into your waiting room] When this card is placed on the stage from your hand, you may pay the cost. If you do, search your deck for up to one character with “Berserker(バーサーカー)” in its card name, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.

Discarding a card to search for a Berserker of your choice is an awesome ability since your hand size will still maintain the same.

【AUTO】 [(2) Return this card to your hand] When this card is frontal attacked, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose up to one card named ““Strong Will” Berserker” in your hand, and put it on this card’s stage position as the defending character.

This ability is awesome! Paying an extra cost to play “Strong Will” Berserker at Level 1 is totally worth it. What makes it more awesome is that you can search for “Strong Will” Berserker using this card’s first ability. Now your opponent has to think twice before performing a frontal attack at this character. Did I forget to mention that once you return this card back to your hand, you can perform a deck search for Berserker in the following turn when you play this card again? Well…now you know!

Berserker’s Will

【COUNTER】 Choose one of your characters with “Illya(イリヤ)” or “Berserker(バーサーカー)” in its card name, and put it into your waiting room. If you do, look at up to four cards from the top of your deck, choose up to one card from among them, put it into your hand, and put the rest into your waiting room.

This card has a 【COUNTER】 icon, meaning you can use it on your opponent’s turn after knowing that one of your Illya or Berserker will get 【REVERSE】 by your opponent. A great way to thin out your deck, too!
